Queen Margaret Orchestra
MISSION STATEMENT
The Queen Margaret Orchestra is for students, years 7-13, who have at least two year's experience on their instrument. Queen Margaret Orchestra performs at school functions and concerts and has an important role in the school’s formal ceremonies, such as Senior Prizegiving. They also take part in the annual Wellington Band and Orchestra Festival (WEBO).
DIRECTOR: Tim Jenkin
ANNUAL PERFORMANCES (tbc)
Assembly performances
Arts Extravaganza
MEFA (Musicworks Ensemble Festival Aotearoa)
Senior School Prizegiving
ATTENDANCE
All orchestra members are required to attend every rehearsal and performance, with the exception of illness or absence from school. The commitment to the Queen Margaret Orchestra is for the year, not term by term, and once the students make the decision to join, their attendance is expected for the entire school year.
If students are away from school or unable to attend a rehearsal, email Tim Jenkin to explain the absence.
PUNCTUALITY
Punctuality is expected every week. Arriving late can be very disruptive for the rehearsal, and takes away from the precious minutes of time we have to practise. Parents will be contacted if lateness becomes an issue.
REHEARSALS: Wednesdays before school, 7.45-8.30am in the Auditorium
WHAT TO BRING
Students need to bring their instrument and Orchestra folder to rehearsal each week. Each student must have a 2B pencil and eraser which must be kept in their instrument case and brought to rehearsal each week.
CONTACT
Regular information with regards to upcoming events will be provided via email. Any queries or questions can be emailed to Tim Jenkin.
UNIFORM
Formal school uniform is required for all public performances. Girls should look their best with polished shoes and neatly presented uniform.
INSTRUMENT HIRE
Students need to provide their own instruments. Instruments can be hired on a monthly/yearly basis from several shops in Wellington. The school may have a few instruments available for hire, so please inquire to check for availability. Tutors are always willing to give advice on purchasing instruments.
FEES
$65 per year
Additional costs: MEFA Festival
