In the Spotlight Objective
In the Spotlight Conservatory aims to create confident and creative stars who can take the stage by force!
Dance
The instructor will be building the students' foundation in dance and movement technique, working on strength and coordination to further their dance ability. They will then explore the various styles of musical theatre dance such as jazz, Fosse, lyrical and street style, as well as the character and intent behind each style when applied to the stage.
Working towards creating performance pieces, the students will learn to dance in small groups and ensembles while learning teamwork and developing the confidence needed to perform together. In the Spotlight dance will be an environment of passion, enthusiasm, and fun for everyone who enters. No matter your age or experience we aims to build confident theatre stars!
Musical Theatre Singing
The instructor will be building the students' foundation in vocal techniques specific to musical theatre, while developing a broader range and experiencing various genres of musical theatre. There will be regular vocal warmups, singing in unison and learning to sing in parts. In addition, we will spend some valuable time learning to interpret the music score.
We will be working towards creating performance pieces. Students will participate in small groups, large ensembles, and possibly solos or duets.
Necessary materials for singing:
Art Songs
There will be two instructors in the class for Art Songs: vocal tutor and accompanist. We will be building the students' foundation in vocal techniques specific to a classical singing approach, while developing a deeper understanding of foreign language, history of specific art song composers, and performance practices related to that period of music.
