General Conditions
Registration for Music/Speech and Drama lessons is required by the end of Week 1, Term 1. Parents will be emailed a link to the QMC Activities Selection screen about 1 week prior to the start of school. Use this link to register your daughter’s chosen activities.
1. Music lessons last 1/2 of a period (approximately 27 minutes), are usually given on an individual basis, and take place in Aitken House. Girls are able to make better progress if they have an individual lesson. However, paired lessons are available in some instruments by arrangement with the teachers.
2. The lesson times and group allocation will be arranged by the music staff after the needs and capabilities of the girls have been assessed. Some lessons are available after school. Preferences expressed by parents will be taken into account if possible, but preference is given to senior students for out of class times.
3. Speech and Drama lessons are 1/2 of a period (approx. 27 minutes) and are available for individual, paired or group tuition. The groups will be organised by the tutors, according to the needs and capabilities of the girls. Please note that some speech and drama lessons will be scheduled after school.
4. For students in year 1-10, lessons usually take place during class time. For students in year 11-13 lessons can take place at lunchtimes, formtimes, after school or in study periods.
5. Junior School students may come out of class for two lessons weekly, and are advised to enrol for no more than three lessons in total.
6. Middle School students may come out of class for two lessons weekly, and are advised to enrol for no more than three lessons in total.
7. Individual/paired lessons missed for personal reasons will be charged for. However, if the tutor is notified of the student’s absence before 8.00am on the day of the lesson, an alternative lesson time may be arranged. Please ensure you have the tutor's mobile phone number/email.
8. Group lessons in Speech and Drama missed for personal reasons are chargeable.
9. Lessons are not charged for when missed through compulsory attendance at school functions. However, you need to contact your tutor at least 24 hours in advance if you are going to miss a lesson (eg school trip). This is the student’s/parent’s responsibility.
10. Lessons are invoiced each term in advance. Prompt payment is appreciated. Costs are set by individual tutors, but as a guide, 27 min individual lessons will cost approx. $37. There is also an annual administration charge of $7 per student for each discipline studied.
11. Individual or paired lessons may be discontinued provided half a term/five weeks notice in writing is given to the tutor and to the HOD Performing Arts. For group lessons in Speech and Drama, notice may only be given at the end of term. It should be noted that:
• One term’s tuition is not usually sufficient for a beginning student to
decide whether or not she is suited to an instrument or speech and drama;
• All students are required to re-register at the beginning of each school year.
12. Tuition may be taken up during the course of a year if a vacancy
exists. Enquiries should be made to the HOD Performing Arts.
13. Some instruments can be hired from the College – please contact the HOD Performing Arts for further details. Hire charges will be made for the whole year in Term One.
Piano students must have a piano (at home) – for practising.
14. If there are any queries, please contact Tim Jenkin, Director of Performing Arts.
