Junior Instrumental Programme
Since 2020 we have been running a new and innovative Junior School Music programme which allows every girl in the Junior school in years 3-6 to learn an instrument in small groups with a specialist tutor. The programme is very well supported by students and parents alike, and many girls are continuing to achieve to a high standard beyond Year 6.
This exciting programme, now in its fifth year, is proving to have ongoing benefits, not only to the musical life of the school but also to the academic accomplishments of all of our younger students.
In years 3-4, girls learn a string instrument: violin or cello.
In year 5, girls are given the choice to continue with strings or to move onto a wind instrument: flute, clarinet, trumpet, or trombone.
In year 6, the girls continue with their instrument or have the option to move to saxophone, oboe, bassoon, bass guitar or percussion. These girls also play in a band or string group. There is an opportunity late in Term 4 or at the beginning of Term 1 to try out the different instruments.
Unless already owned by students, instruments are supplied by the school and there is a termly charge to cover instrument hire and small group tuition costs. Tutor books are an extra charge as required.
