Honours Band
MISSION STATEMENT
Honours Band is an auditioned ensemble for students in years 7-10 at QMC. This group continues to develop the skills that they have been learning in Banditas and private lessons. Students will play a wide range of pieces from the classical, folk & pop genres. Players also develop performance and presentation skills that build self-confidence.
DIRECTOR: Tim Jenkin
ANNUAL PERFORMANCES (tbc)
Weekend Camp
Assembly performance
Arts Extravaganza
MEFA (Musicworks Band and Orchestra Festival)
Middle School Prizegiving
ATTENDANCE
All band members are required to attend every rehearsal and performance, with the exception of illness or absence from school. The commitment to the Honours Band is for the year, not term by term, and once the students make the decision to join, their attendance is expected for the entire school year.
If students are away from school or unable to attend a rehearsal, email Tim Jenkin to explain the absence.
PUNCTUALITY
Punctuality is expected every week. Arriving late can be very disruptive for the rehearsal, and takes away from the precious minutes of time we have to practise. Parents will be contacted if lateness becomes an issue.
REHEARSALS: Wednesday or Thursday on a rotating basis during school
WHAT TO BRING
Students need to bring their instrument and Honours Band folder to rehearsal each week. Each student must have a 2B pencil and eraser which must be kept in their instrument case and brought to rehearsal each week.
CONTACT
Regular information with regards to upcoming events will be provided via email and letters. The events will also be posted on the school’s performing arts page on the QMC app. Any queries or questions can be emailed to Tim Jenkin.
UNIFORM
Formal school uniform is required for all public performances. Girls should look their best with polished shoes and neatly presented uniform.
INSTRUMENT HIRE
Students need to provide their own instruments. Instruments can be hired on a monthly/yearly basis from several shops in Wellington. The school may have a few instruments available for hire, so please inquire to check for availability. Tutors are always willing to give advice on purchasing instruments.
FEES
$50 per year
Additional costs: MEFA Festival
